Researchers from the University of Utah or Utah Natural History Museum, the University of Kansas, the University of the Philippines, and Louisiana State University have discovered two new species of the tweezer-beaked hopping rats or ‘shrew-rats on mountains in the Philippines’ island of Luzon. The study was published in the Journal of Mammalogy.The new species are named Rhynchomys labo (Labo shrew-rat) and Rhynchomys mingan (Mingan shrew-rat ). Rhynchomys is a genus name where the term “rhyncos” is for snout and “mys” for “mouse.
