1. COVID-19 IN PAKISTAN

  • Three vaccinators booked for ‘fake entries’ at Expo Centre Lahore: Police on Saturday registered a case against three vaccinators at Expo Centre Lahore for making fake COVID-19 vaccine entries. According to shift in charge and complainant Rana Naveed, the three vaccinators were administering AstraZeneca vaccines to five people demanding that vaccine in particular and charged Rs4,000 per person. However, AstraZeneca vaccines aren’t being officially administered at Expo Centre Lahore and the entries recorded were fake.
  • COVID-19 risk allowance to finally be paid to frontline health workers: The Ministry of National Health Services has decided to finally pay the COVID-19 risk allowances of health workers. According to Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser, healthcare workers hadn’t been paid their risk allowance in 11 months. Some healthcare workers allege that the ministry wanted to make these payments to healthcare workers selectively by differentiating between those who worked in covid wards versus those who did not. However, healthcare workers believe all of them risked being exposed to the virus, even if they weren’t treating patients in covid wards. The ministry has given hospitals a deadline of July 5 to submit the names of all healthcare workers “performing COVID-19 duties.”

2. Pakistan Post sets up Amazon Facilitation Centre to boost Pakistani exports: Just months after Amazon added Pakistan to its sellers’ list, Pakistan Post established the Amazon Facilitation Centre to widen the scope of Pakistani sellers to a global audience. Pakistan Post has officially been authorised as the delivery partner of Amazon, according to Adeeb Iqbal Sheikh, North Zone chairman of Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association. Sheikh hopes this move is “favourable” for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and a “massive achievement” for Pakistan’s e-commerce sector.
