1. COVID-19 IN PAKISTAN

  • USA sending 2.5 million COVID-19 vaccines to Pakistan: The Biden administration will be sending 2.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine to Pakistan, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on Monday. Pakistan signed an agreement with Pfizer Pakistan last week to receive 13 million doses of its vaccine, while 1.5 million doses of Sinovac arrived in Pakistan from China earlier this month.
  • UAE extends ban on incoming flights from Pakistan, 13 other countries till July 21: The United Arab Emirates has extended its ban on incoming flights from Pakistan and 13 other countries till July 21 due to the coronavirus pandemic. This is a two-week extension on banned flights from the earlier announced date of July 7. Cargo flights as well as business and charter flights will be exempted from this suspension. Flights from Pakistan were initially banned from entering the UAE from May 12 onwards. India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka are among the other South Asian nations currently banned from operating inbound flights to the UAE.

Pakistani-origin man stabbed in Canada, taunted for beard and clothing: 32-year-old Muhammad Kashif was stabbed by unidentified assailants in Saskatoon, Canada just weeks after a Pakistani-origin family of four was murdered in Ontario in a premeditated, Islamophobic attack. According to Kashif, who survived the attack but received 14 stitches to his arm, the assailants shouted “Why are you wearing this dress?” “Why are you here?” “Go back to your country. I hate Muslims.” The assailants also asked him why he wore a beard before cutting off a part of it. The mayor of Saskatoon Charlie Clark was “horrified and saddened” by the attack. Kashif emigrated from Pakistan to Canada 20 years ago and fears for the safety of his wife and three children who are all below the age of eight.
