2. Citizens rush to petrol stations ahead of strike

What’s going on? There are reports of traffic jams in major cities (e.g. Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi), and long lines at petrol stations. Citizens were rushing to put fuel in their vehicles before the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) launched a nationwide strike. Starting today at 6:00 am local time, fuel stations around the country are expected to remain closed.

The details: The PPDA announced a nationwide strike and the closure of fuel stations after accusing the government of failing to increase profit margins for petroleum dealers. According to the PPDA, the government agreed to raise the profit margin three years ago but still hasn’t come through. The head of the PPDA’s Bahawalpur chapter, Muhammad Yaseen, said that only ambulances and Rescue 1122 vehicles would have access to fuel during the strike.
