2. Journalist Arif Nizami passes away: Arif Nizami was a veteran journalist and founder of the English newspaper, Pakistan Today. He served as caretaker federal minister for information and broadcasting in 2013 and worked for The Nation. He passed away in Lahore yesterday at the age of 74. According to Express Tribune, he was receiving treatment for a heart-related ailment at a private hospital. Nizami’s nephew, Babar, reportedly said his uncle had a heart attack three weeks ago. Politicians from the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and opposition parties expressed their condolences on Twitter, including – Prime Minister Imran Khan from PTI, Senator Sherry Rehman from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and Shehbaz Sharif, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party. Sharif believes “an era of old school journalism has come to an end.” The army’s media wing also tweeted condolences on behalf of Army Chief General Qamar Bajwa.
