2. Cuba offers vaccine production in Pakistan:

  • While Pakistan has been receiving millions of foreign vaccine doses from China, Russia and the U.S. over the past few months, Cuba recently offered to set up a vaccine production centre in Pakistan for both exports and domestic use. More than 21 million total doses have been administered in Pakistan, according to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC). For the first time since vaccination efforts have been underway in Pakistan, more than half a million doses were administered Tuesday, July 13, according to a tweet by NCOC head Asad Umar.

3. Sindh reimposes ban on indoor dining, activities as COVID-19 cases surge: 

  • From Thursday, July 15 onwards the Sindh government has reimposed a ban on indoor dining, gyms, amusement/water parks, swimming pools and cinemas. Classes for grades 1 to 8 will be suspended Saturday onward, while exams for grades 9 and above will continue as scheduled. The positivity rate in Sindh has surged to 7.4 percent and 17.11 percent in Karachi as of July 13. “Inland tourism” such as visiting beaches and lakes has also been curbed. The restrictions will last till July 31. 356 cases of COVID-19 variants have surfaced in Sindh as of July 12, with more than 40 cases of the highly contagious Delta variant emerging in Karachi in July so far.
