SPOTLIGHT

Is Pakistan among the top-10 most dangerous countries in the world?

What’s going on? Pakistan didn’t make it to the top-10 list. However, it landed at #11, with #1 being most dangerous (i.e. Afghanistan).

The details: Every year, the Institute for Economics and Peace releases a Global Peace Index report that measures how dangerous or safe a nation is based on 23 indicators. The report evaluates 163 countries that account for over 99% of the world’s population. Pakistan ranked #11 due to its high number of terror attacks, crime rate, and unstable governance. The report also published a South Asia regional ranking, with #1 being most peaceful and #7 being least peaceful:

South Asia

  1. Bhutan
  2. Nepal
  3. Sri Lanka
  4. Bangladesh
  5. India
  6. Pakistan
  7. Afghanistan

The bottom line: Pakistan missed the top-10 list, but by one point. That’s an uncomfortably small margin, which means the state of peace in Pakistan is still very low.
