2. Police arrest fast food employees for refusing demands of free burgers

19 employees of Lahori fast food restaurant Johnny and Jugnu were reportedly taken into custody by the police Friday night for rejecting the police’s demands for free burgers. According to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page, the police took all employees of their DHA Phase 6 outlet into custody without any basis. The employees were forced to leave the restaurant entirely unattended for the rest of the night, with kitchen fryers and stoves still burning and customers waiting for their food to be served.

  • Now what? The restaurant vowed to fight against the status quo and asked the public to voice their support for their workers who were  allegedly subjected to “violent behaviour, harassment and trauma” while doing their jobs. According to the Punjab Police’s official Twitter account, the C Block police station SHO and staff involved in the incident have been suspended. “No one is allowed to take law into his own hands. Injustice will not be tolerated,” the tweet read.
  • Backstory: The police’s demands for free burgers actually came two days prior to the employees being arrested. They returned the next day to further harass and pressurize the restaurant’s staff into closing the restaurant, according to the post. The team was locked up for almost seven hours at the C Block police station for refusing a request from a “very high profile special guest.”
