Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) announced that the Students who appeared in MDCAT 2020 can now apply on the basis of their results for Admission to Medical and dental colleges. MDCAT result is valid for 2 years. However, the marks and data of MDCAT 2020 and MDCAT 2021 will be co-related and MDCAT 2020 marks will be normalized as per MDCAT 2021 marks. Equivalence of Marks will be done by PMC.
As per PMC notification, It will be a student’s choice to apply on the basis of their equivalence 2020 MDCAT result or the 2021 MDCAT result if they have taken the exam in both years. The equivalence of the 2020 MDCAT result for admissions in 2021-2022 will be available and undertaken after the conclusion of the 2021 MDCAT exam.
How will PMC MDCAT 2020 Marks Equivalence be done?
But it is not as simple, as many other factors will also be considered. Other major factors could be the average marks of all students and the standard deviation of student’s marks. Based on all these factors, equivalence will be determined.
The equivalence of marks will be done on many factors. One factor could be comparing the highest marks of MDCAT 2020 and MDCAT 2021. For example, if the topper in MDCAT 2021 scored 185 marks and the topper in MDCAT 2020 scored 198 marks, then it means 13 marks difference is observed in both results. Hence 13 marks will be deducted for each student’s MDCAT 2020 score. Also, it will be checked what percentage of students scored 90% plus score, 80% plus score, and 70% score in MDCAT 2020 and MDCAT 2021.
Generally, it is expected that in PMC equivalence, MDCAT 2020 students will lose approximately 10-15 marks. Hence if a student scored 190 marks in MDCAT 2020, he/she will be awarded 175-180 marks in PMC equivalence.
