  • Citizens without CNICs can get vaccinated in Karachi: People in Karachi can now get vaccinated against COVID-19 even if they don’t have a CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card). They will be required to perform on-the-spot biometric registration at any of Karachi’s mass vaccination centres, 11 new ones which were announced last week. People will also need to register their cell phone numbers when they come in for their vaccinations.

2. Faisalabad administration cancels Aurat March

What’s going on? Faisalabad’s Assistant Commissioner (AC), Ayub Bukhari, told Geo the Aurat March (i.e. women’s march) in Faisalabad was cancelled because event organizers were holding the protest without obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC), which is necessary for security reasons and COVID-19 related restrictions. However, according to Dawn, Aurat March organizers did apply for a NOC with the district administration. Social media users are accusing Faisalabad’s city administration of not giving Aurat March Faisalabad permission to protest. The march was set to take place on Sunday, August 1, to protest the “brutal murders of women” in Pakistan and “stand in solidarity with all women seeking justice.”
