Retired army officer involved in illegal COVID-19 vaccination in Karachi: Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against retired army officer Major Amanullah Sultan for illegally vaccinating people in Karachi’s Saddar area in exchange for money. Sultan had hired Mohammed Ali, among others, to administer COVID-19 vaccines at people’s houses. Ali reportedly stole vaccines from a vaccination center and was arrested by police after they received a complaint from a health official about the illegal vaccinations taking place. 2. Zahir Jaffer confesses to killing Noor Mukadam
What’s going on? The prime suspect in the murder of Noor Mukadam, Zahir Jaffer, reportedly confessed to killing her during a police interrogation. The police also obtained CCTV footage that shows Jaffer dragging Mukadam back into his house in Islamabad after she tried to escape.
Why did he do it? The police charged Jaffer with premeditated murder. He didn’t give a clear reason for murdering Mukadam and reportedly kept giving different answers. Two days ago, an investigating officer told the court that Jaffer called his parents to tell them that Mukadam refuses to merry himself. However, we can’t confirm this was Jaffer’s motive for killing her.
U.S. embassy staff meets Jaffer: While in court for the hearing of Mukadam’s murder, Jaffer claimed his life was “under threat,” and that the US embassy hadn’t contacted him yet. He is reportedly a dual U.S.- Pakistani national. However, U.S. embassy officials asked the police if they could see Jaffer and met him on Monday. Dawn.com didn’t specify why Jaffer thought his life was under threat, and it’s unclear if he elaborated on that statement. U.S. embassy spokesperson, Heather Eaton, said she can’t comment on the case due to privacy concerns. Eaton didn’t disclose if the U.S. embassy was following the case or in touch with any local authority.
