All over in Punjab, Almost 6000 seats are vacant for teachers. The shortage of teaching faculty in Government Colleges has left the future of students at stake. The government has announced time and again to overcome the shortage of teachers but no practical steps have been taken so far except the hiring of college teaching interns.
According to the details, claims have been made by the Punjab government to address the shortage of teachers in educational institutions. Eight thousand posts of teachers were lying vacant in 790 colleges of Punjab due to which students are facing educational difficulties. The government has sent requisition to Punjab Public Service Commission for recruitment of 8000 college teachers, out of which Punjab Public Service Commission has so far recruited 2000 teachers for colleges.
Despite the recruitment of these 2,000 teachers, 6000 vacancies for college teachers are still vacant in Punjab. Government colleges in the province are failing to provide quality education to the students due to which the parents prefer private institutions. The shortage of teaching faculty is a major reason in this regard. The Government must address the issue at the earliest. On the other hand, people are finding it difficult to pay the high fees of private colleges due to which the number of admissions in Government colleges is rising every year which is severely impacting the quality of education being provided.
