After the final count was announced, PML-N VP, Maryam Nawaz, claimed the election was stolen from her party. According to Nawaz, voter turnout was around 15-18%, which isn&#8217;t a lot. She was wondering why counting the votes took\u00a0so long with such a low voter turnout (i.e. more than eight hours). The math doesn&#8217;t make sense to Nawaz either. She claimed that vote counts were more than voter turnout.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Tell me more:\u00a0<\/strong>There were some alleged issues with the Form 45\u00a0(i.e. a document that shows each contestant&#8217;s votes). According to PML-N&#8217;s Muhammad Zubair, their party&#8217;s polling agent didn&#8217;t get the Form 45 from two polling stations &#8211; 260 and 261. Zubair claimed that both presiding offers locked up the polling station and left.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Was the polling process peaceful?\u00a0<\/strong>Sort of. No major incident. Workers from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and the religious far-right\u00a0Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP) party reportedly\u00a0threw chairs at each other. TLP&#8217;s candidate\u00a0still participated in the election even though the party was recently banned. There was also a confrontation between\u00a0PTI and PML-N workers while votes were being counted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The context:<\/strong>\u00a0A by-election was held in the NA-249 constituency because the seat\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tribune.com.pk\/story\/2297379\/pml-n-protests-after-na-249-by-poll-result-swung-for-ppp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-fsjukl-iluykthdp-k\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1619923186917000&amp;usg=AFQjCNG6EBJX8tqHqEr5n35R7-qk61HnFg\">became vacant<\/a>. Govt recalls embassy officials in Saudi Arabia<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The govt asked six officers to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1621058\/ambassador-6-officers-of-pakistani-embassy-in-riyadh-called-back-over-public-complaints\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-fsjukl-iluykthdp-o\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1619923186917000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFEkgQs0-LC3NbNh4yvk_TbWNdIww\">return from Pakistan&#8217;s embassy in Saudi Arabia<\/a>. They worked in the<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>diplomatic, community welfare, and consular departments of the embassy. There was reportedly a problem with the public service they provided to overseas Pakistanis living in the country.\u00a0The Pakistani diaspora in Saudi Arabia submitted\u00a0complaints.\u00a0<wbr \/>According to\u00a0Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, the Pakistani embassy wasn&#8217;t taking care of the labor class working in Saudi Arabia. He even claimed that some staff members mistreated Pakistani laborers living and working there. PM Khan said he values the Pakistani labor class in other countries since they work hard and send money (i.e. remittances) back to their families in Pakistan. Fun fact &#8211; a majority\u00a0of the remittances during fiscal year 2021 came from Saudi Arabia, amounting to $5.7 billion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Now what?\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Pakistan&#8217;s former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Raja Ali Ijaz, has already returned. Ejaz had been serving in Saudi Arabia since January 2019.
