Critics are accusing PM Khan of &#8220;simplifying rape,&#8221; and &#8220;victim blaming.&#8221; According to critics, he is placing the blame of rape on\u00a0women and how they dress, instead of calling out violent male behavior.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The context:\u00a0<\/strong>This isn&#8217;t the first time PM Khan has drawn connections between sexual violence and vulgarity. Last year, during an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1579669\/rapists-should-be-publicly-hanged-or-chemically-castrated-pm-imran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-fodjld-iluykthdp-k\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1617932114420000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE_y1OFVt_QlmKu5kaqR2-dVUHMRw\">interview<\/a>\u00a0with journalist Moeed Pirzada\u00a0on\u00a0<em>92 News<\/em>, PM Khan\u00a0claimed that\u00a0vulgarity\u00a0is causing an increase in sexual crimes: \u201cwhen you increase\u00a0vulgarity\u00a0in society, two things happen &#8211; sex crimes increase, and the family system breaks down.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The bottom line:\u00a0<\/strong>The HRCP straight up said this is &#8220;unacceptable behavior&#8221;\u00a0for a public leader.\u00a0People who do not agree with PM Khan&#8217;s stance on sexual violence and rape think he&#8217;s missing the point because,<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Rape is the rapists fault.<\/li>\n<li>Rape\u00a0is not a result of lust or vulgarity, it&#8217;s\u00a0motivated by the\u00a0urge\u00a0to control and\u00a0dominate women.<\/li>\n<li>Lust is an emotion. Rape is criminal.<\/li>\n<li>Women &#8216;covering up&#8217; and helping men &#8216;control their urges&#8217; will not prevent rape. The opposition alliance claimed that a rigged election brought PM Khan and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party into power.\u00a0Pakistan\u00a0People&#8217;s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and\u00a0Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl\u00a0(JUI-F) are\u00a0the three largest political parties in the PDM. However,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1616747\/anp-quits-pdm-says-alliance-hijacked-by-some-parties\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-fodjld-iluykthdp-m\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1617932114420000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFbAC6Rstb_UQoi_IAyo09qnPtIqQ\">some recent events<\/a>\u00a0suggest the opposition alliance might be wavering.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Internal\u00a0disagreements:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>The Awami National Party (ANP) is leaving the opposition alliance. ANP didn&#8217;t like receiving a show-cause notice for helping PPP\u00a0get\u00a0its member, Yousaf Raza Gilani, elected as opposition leader in the Senate. PML-N member and the PDM&#8217;s Secretary General,\u00a0Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, issued the show-cause notice.\u00a0PML-N nominated its own member\u00a0for opposition leader, but PPP wasn&#8217;t on board. During a press conference, ANP Central VP, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti,\u00a0said there were disagreements in the alliance. He also claimed some &#8220;elements&#8221; in the alliance have &#8220;personal agendas.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>A new alliance:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>The PDM decided to form a new alliance, minus PPP and ANP.\u00a0This new alliance is expected to have five\u00a0opposition parties, including\u00a0PML-N and JUI-F.\u00a0They&#8217;re mad at PPP for pushing to get its candidate elected for opposition leader in the Senate when other parties weren&#8217;t on the same page.
