They covered a lot of ground, but what especially stood out to us was Schiff&#8217;s\u00a0brief comment about Pakistan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The details:\u00a0<\/strong>According to Morell, many Americans\u00a0who supported former Republican President, Donald Trump, now see the\u00a0intelligence community as\u00a0a part of the &#8220;deep state.&#8221; In other words, these Americans don&#8217;t trust the intelligence community, and think it&#8217;s trying to undermine the US.\u00a0&#8220;Deep state&#8221; is a conspiracy theory, which suggests that secret and unauthorized networks are operating behind the scenes of a legitimately elected govt, kind of like a shadow govt.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Tell me more:\u00a0<\/strong>Schiff said the\u00a0&#8220;deep state myth&#8221; is &#8220;deeply damaging&#8221; and similar to what they used to hear in other Third World countries like&#8230;wait for it&#8230;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/adam-schiff-reset-house-intelligence-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-audjtkl-iluykthdp-k\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1615512410207000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHq0hzd-zqFUCfczgP7tCejBQPcNw\">Pakistan<\/a>!\u00a0He\u00a0went to Pakistan once, and said there was a conspiracy theory about him being there on a mission to try and change the Pakistan Supreme Court&#8217;s judgement regarding\u00a0former President and Army Chief, General Pervez Musharraf. Schiff recalled thinking &#8220;my God, I&#8217;m glad we don&#8217;t have those kind of crazy conspiracies at home.&#8221; A few seconds later he stated, &#8220;now we do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The context:\u00a0<\/strong>In December 2019, a special court ruled that Musharraf was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/blog\/order-from-chaos\/2019\/12\/19\/why-pakistans-former-ruler-musharraf-was-sentenced-to-death-and-what-it-means\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-audjtkl-iluykthdp-u\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1615512410207000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE57m6urQa6ytSRbRfDDeWRlvvCfw\">guilty<\/a>\u00a0of committing high treason for suspending the constitution when he imposed a state of emergency in November 2007.
