Shaikh and Gilani were competing for the\u00a0Senate seat from Islamabad.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Alleged bribery:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>PM Khan alleged that the opposition alliance was a big proponent of the secret ballot, because they were planning to &#8220;use money&#8221; and pay lawmakers\u00a0to vote for Gilani. With a secret ballot, PM Khan&#8217;s PTI party wouldn&#8217;t be able to see which members were defecting and voting for the opposition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Et tu, Brute?\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Without naming anyone, PM Khan alleged that\u00a015 or 16 PTI members were bribed to vote against their own party-backed candidate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>The infamous NRO:<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>PM Khan brought up<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). He claimed\u00a0the opposition alliance tried to make his PTI party\u00a0lose the Senate seat from Islamabad so they could threaten him with a no-confidence vote, unless he gave them an NRO (i.e. amnesty to politicians, political workers, and bureaucrats accused of corruption).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>In conclusion:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>A rough english translation of what he said:\u00a0&#8216;If I&#8217;m not in power, it won&#8217;t make any difference to\u00a0my life.&#8217;\u00a0He also gave a pointed warning: &#8216;Whether I&#8217;m sitting in the opposition, or out of the National Assembly, I\u00a0won&#8217;t spare you (i.e. broad reference to corrupt people)\u00a0until you return this country&#8217;s money.&#8217; It sounds like he wants to remain politically active, even if he&#8217;s\u00a0not in\u00a0the govt, or in power.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Looking ahead:\u00a0<\/strong>On Wednesday, Special Assistant to the Punjab Chief Minister on Information, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, claimed that\u00a0PTI got a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nation.com.pk\/04-Mar-2021\/pti-emerges-as-majority-party-in-senate-elections-dr-firdous\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-autlix-iluykthdp-k\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1615089685204000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH4T_j1euETxb2dWi5slQlunEa5Pw\">majority<\/a>\u00a0in the Senate. Results were still rolling in on Wednesday.
