Pakistan ended up on the global watchdog&#8217;s grey list (i.e. watch list) in June 2018\u00a0for failing to take appropriate action against money laundering and terrorist financing. Now, Pakistan is actively trying to avoid the FATF black list, which is bad news for\u00a0a country that wants to protect\u00a0its global reputation, and receive financial assistance from international organizations.\u00a0Countries downgraded to\u00a0the black list are\u00a0considered &#8216;high risk&#8217; jurisdictions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The bottom line:\u00a0<\/strong>Pakistan is working through a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tribune.com.pk\/story\/2269208\/pakistan-unlikely-to-exit-fatf-grey-list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-aildtud-iluykthdp-d\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1607186129818000&amp;usg=AFQjCNG2cTA9RL-vpSanU8r2gWld8L8OuA\">27-point action\u00a0plan<\/a>\u00a0to actively combat money laundering and terror financing. Two incoming high court judges<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tribune.com.pk\/story\/2274510\/jcp-recommends-babar-sattar-tariq-jahangiri-as-ihc-judges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-aildtud-iluykthdp-h\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1607186129818000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEeBSfkFlttPOc0jbdYWgXloBTQvQ\">approved the nominations<\/a>\u00a0of Babar Sattar and Tariq\u00a0Jahangiri as additional judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC). UNGA adopts resolution to respect religious symbols<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arabnews.pk\/node\/1771901\/pakistan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-aildtud-iluykthdp-x\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1607186129818000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHQ1GzIRYBjxCklOvaxlzHKZOqHXA\">The UNGA just adopted<\/a>\u00a0a Pakistan-Philippines sponsored resolution on inter-religious and inter-cultural dialogue.\u00a0The resolution emphasizes the importance of\u00a0respecting sacred religious symbols. The European Union, some other western countries, and India opposed the resolution, but it still came through. Countries that argued against the resolution were worried about freedom of speech limitations. Pakistan&#8217;s Ambassador to the UN, Munir Akram, repeated PM Khan&#8217;s calls to challenge Islamophobia and promote respect for religious sensitivities. Ambassador Akram stated\u00a0that deliberate insults against Islam, which is one of the largest religions in the world, only causes problems.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Backstory:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>The resolution follows\u00a0weeks of protests against France.
