According to\u00a0<em>Dawn<\/em>, Obama wrote that he didn&#8217;t want to miss a chance to take out Bin-Laden in\u00a0Abbottabad, knowing that he would be &#8220;violating the territory of a putative ally&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Tell me more:\u00a0<\/strong>According to\u00a0<em>Dawn&#8217;s<\/em>\u00a0overview of the memoir, Obama called Pakistan&#8217;s president at the time, Asif Ali Zardari, after the raid. Obama reportedly wrote that he expected the call to be more difficult. However, Zardari apparently showed &#8220;genuine emotion,&#8221; and talked about how extremists with reported\u00a0ties to\u00a0Al Qaeda\u00a0killed his\u00a0wife, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Obama apparently also quoted Zardari saying, &#8220;Whatever the fallout, it\u2019s very good\u00a0<span class=\"il\">news<\/span>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>There&#8217;s still more:<\/strong>\u00a0Obama&#8217;s military chief,\u00a0Mike Mullen, also called Pakistan&#8217;s army chief at the time,\u00a0Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani\u200b. According to\u00a0<em>Dawn&#8217;s<\/em>\u00a0report about the memoir, Kayani asked the U.S. to announce the raid and its target asap so his people could start managing the public&#8217;s reaction.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The context:<\/strong>\u00a0On\u00a0May 2, 2011, a U.S. Navy Seal team flew from Afghanistan to Pakistan, barged into Bin-Laden&#8217;s compound in Abbottabad, and killed him. Bin-Laden was\u00a0the mastermind of the 9\/11 attacks.\u00a0According to\u00a0<em>Dawn&#8217;s<\/em>\u00a0report about the memoir, Obama wrote that he didn&#8217;t want to involve Pakistan in the raid,\u00a0because he believed certain elements in the country maintained links with\u00a0the Taliban, and maybe even Al Qaeda.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The bottom line:\u00a0<\/strong>It sounds like Obama had an inkling that Pakistani authorities\u00a0would be upset and consider the Bin-Laden raid\u00a0a violation of its sovereignty. However, Obama\u00a0was pleasantly surprised to see that Zardari took it well, and Kayani was cordial enough, while\u00a0worried about the public blowback.\u00a0It sounds like Pakistan didn&#8217;t know what was going to happen in\u00a0Abbottabad, and the U.S. didn&#8217;t tell Pakistan about its lead on Bin-Laden.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\"><strong>3. Indian flight makes emergency landing in Karachi<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>An Indian plane made an emergency landing at<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Jinnah International Airport in Karachi since a passenger was having health issues. The aircraft of private airline,\u00a0GoAir, was on its way to\u00a0<span class=\"il\">New<\/span>\u00a0Delhi from Riyadh. The ill passenger, 30-year-old Muhammad Noushad, was pronounced dead after doctors reached the airport. Noushad reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away before the plane landed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Backstory:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Pakistan\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tribune.com.pk\/story\/2272589\/indian-plane-makes-emergency-landing-at-karachi-airport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-atyfkt-iluykthdp-n\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1605928087478000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3si5rHo9exh6cDzljoHUQe\">banned<\/a>\u00a0flights into and out of India from its airspace after an episode of aerial combat between Pakistani and Indian fighter jets in February 2019. A\u00a0Pakistan-based militant group reportedly claimed responsibility for the Pulwama attack.\u00a0Pakistan reopened its airspace for all civilian air traffic in July 2019, nearly\u00a0five months later.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\"><strong>4. UAE bans visitors from 12 countries, including Pakistan<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The UAE will\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1591082\/uae-suspends-issuance-of-visit-visas-to-12-countries-including-pakistan-says-fo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-atyfkt-iluykthdp-x\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1605928087478000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2UfdZXKBVVuzRu06jjlDF6\">temporarily stop issuing visit visas<\/a>\u00a0to 12 countries. Pakistan is in the\u00a0mix as well. However, the visit visa suspension doesn&#8217;t apply to visas that have already been issued. Also, people with iqamas (i.e. residence permits), transit, and\u00a0work visas can still enter the UAE. Pakistan&#8217;s Foreign Office spokesperson, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, said UAE authorities most likely made this decision due to COVID-19. The infection rate in Pakistan has been rising since last month. Back in June, when there was a COVID-19 surge in Pakistan, a UAE airline (i.e. Emirates)\u00a0temporarily\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1565091\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-atyfkt-iluykthdp-m\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1605928087478000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3wLvSl2TIuzo4Xa9y4m_34\">suspende<wbr \/>d passenger service<\/a>\u00a0from Pakistan until July 3.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"m_6906728155450885812size-18\" lang=\"x-size-18\"><span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\"><strong>5.
