In his article, Noorani made claims about the Bajwa family\u2019s business interests abroad. Bajwa\u2019s brother, Nadeem, was a delivery driver for\u00a0Papa John\u2019s Pizza before working his way up to operating multiple Papa John\u2019s locations. Bajwa\u2019s younger brothers reportedly opened their first Papa John\u2019s Pizza restaurant in 2002. Now, according to Noorani, the Bajwa family owns a massive business empire, which includes 99 companies in four countries, and a pizza franchise with 133 restaurants.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Tell me more:\u00a0<\/strong>When signing his declaration of assets and liabilities, Bajwa reportedly said he and his wife don\u2019t have immovable property or business capital outside of Pakistan. However, according to Noorani\u2019s report, the Bajwa family\u2019s companies (i.e. Bajco Group) spent an estimated $52.2 million to develop their businesses, and $14.5 million to purchase properties in the US. According to Noorani, official documents show Bajwa\u2019s wife as an equal shareholder in the businesses of Bajco Group, along with Bajwa\u2019s five brothers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Looking ahead:\u00a0<\/strong>The Pakistan People\u2019s Party (PPP) is encouraging a probe into Noorani\u2019s report. Bajwa denied the allegations and called the report \u201ca malicious propaganda story.\u201d Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, said it\u2019s common for news to come out without any confirmation, and that the report\u2019s authenticity will be clarified soon. Bajwa\u2019s brother and president of Bajco Group, Malik, claimed that Bajwa and his sons are not involved in Bajco. Bajwa will address Noorani\u2019s news report in the next few days.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The bottom line:\u00a0<\/strong>PBC, HRCP, and PFUJ leaders called on human rights organizations and civil society to take note of how critical voices are allegedly silenced through brute force or abductions. Hours after our newsletter landed in your inbox yesterday, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-pakistan-socialmedia-ban\/pakistan-blocks-five-dating-apps-including-tinder-and-grindr-idUSKBN25S618\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-allkidd-iluykthdp-d\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1599158778647000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHa0bXUhtBx5cMUNz_y-K-70F9qlA\">blocked access to five dating\/live streaming apps<\/a>, including Tinder, Tagged, Skout, Grindr, and SayHi. In a statement, PTA called out the \u201cnegative effects of immoral\/indecent content streaming through the applications.\u201d PTA said it asked the management of each platform to remove dating services and moderate live streaming content in accordance with Pakistan\u2019s local laws. Since management didn\u2019t respond, PTA rolled up its sleeves and blocked the apps. PTA is open to un-blocking the apps, but only if the platforms \u201cadhere to local laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Backstory:<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>PTA has been\u00a0targeting online platforms that allegedly circulate \u201cimmoral content.\u201d Nearly two months ago, PTA banned live-streaming app, Bigo, and gave a final warning to video-sharing app, TikTok, citing \u201cexplicit content\u201d on the platforms. However, PTA\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tribune.com.pk\/story\/2257427\/pta-lifts-ban-on-pubg-bigo-after-meeting-with-companies-officials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-allkidd-iluykthdp-h\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1599158778647000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE1slsRuRfUTGvSpTLYJXFMv3MHFQ\">lifted the ban on Bigo<\/a>\u00a0after a company representative\u00a0reiterated Bigo\u2019s commitment to moderate immoral and indecent content in accordance with Pakistani laws. Last week, PTA even asked video-sharing platform, YouTube, to immediately block vulgar, indecent, immoral, nude and hate speech content in Pakistan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\"><strong>4.<\/strong> <strong>Pakistani court issues warning to Ex-PM, Nawaz Sharif<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Former PM, Nawaz Sharif, might be out of sight, but he\u2019s definitely not out of mind. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) court told Sharif to come back to Pakistan by September 10, since he still has to face a corruption hearing. If he doesn\u2019t listen, he could be\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/b0d5034902e67520e0b3751009878708\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsletter.thenewsrun.com\/t\/j-l-allkidd-iluykthdp-k\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1599158778647000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH31_old7QDhnuS5IyPCBCe-qGWVg\">declared a fugitive<\/a>.
