In 2013, a similar amount of this material arrived on board a Russian businessman\u2019s cargo ship. The ship\u00a0docked in Beirut after running into technical problems. The owners reportedly abandoned the ship after it was inspected and banned from leaving. The ship\u2019s cargo was shifted to a port warehouse for safety reasons, but not disposed of or resold. The port\u2019s General Manager and the Director General of Lebanese Customs kept raising red flags about storing ammonium nitrate and wanted it removed, but they didn\u2019t get a response.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Looking ahead:<\/strong>\u00a0The govt promised a thorough investigation.\u00a0The Lebanese people believe govt mismanagement played a role in the explosion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The bottom line:\u00a0<\/strong>People in Lebanon are outraged. He attended\u00a0Boston University and the London School of Economics (LSE).
