Every year, the fourth Thursday of April is observed as an ‘International Girls in ICT (Information and Communications Technology) Day’ by the United Nations and in 2019, it is celebrated on 25th April. The aim is to bridge the gender digital divide.In 2019, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) celebrated the International Girls in ICT Day at the African Union Commission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.This year the special focus is on Africa due to low internet penetration and African region has the widest digital gender gap in the world with only 18.6 percent of women using the Internet as compared with 24.9 percent of men.
